The criterion is devised starting to minimum log-likelihood ratio (LLR) based stopping criterion used for binary turbo codes (BTC). Two variants consist in particularizations of the same idea in the MAP and MaxLogMAP decoding algorithm cases. The proposed two variants criterion has efficiency close to the optimum (genie) criterion and is simple to perform.

Using the Mean Reliability as a Designand Stopping

| By means of the mean reliability (de-ned as the mean of the absolute values of log-likelihood ratios), a new design of parallel con-catenated \turbo" codes is proposed. This criterion allows us to describe the behavior of the constituent decoders and, furthermore, to predict the behavior of the iterative decoder for large block lengths. The mean reliability can also be used as a stopping crit...

Enhanced Max-Log-APP and Enhanced Log-APP Decoding for DVB-RCS

We present a new decoding technique for doublebinary turbo codes, such as in the Digital Video Broadcasting for Return Channel via Satellite (DVBRCS) standard. The proposed techniques are referred to as the Enhanced Max-Log A Posteriori Probability (APP) Decoding and Enhanced LogAPP Decoding. Results for ATM packets show a degradation of 0.05 dB in BER/FER for enhanced max-log-APP compared to c...

Study of Turbo Codes and Decoding in Binary Erasure Channel Based on Stopping Set Analysis

In this paper, we define a stopping set of turbo codes with the iterative decoding in the binary erasure channel. Based on the stopping set analysis, we study the block and bit erasure probabilities of turbo codes and the performance degradation of the iterative decoding against the maximum-likelihood decoding. The error floor performance of turbo codes with the iterative decoding is dominated ...

Fidelity Charts and Stopping/Termination Criteria for Iterative Multiuser Detection

An iterative multiuser detection (IMUD) receiver is considered for a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system with turbo codes. Fidelity is considered as a metric for convergence analysis and an approximation of fidelity as a function of variance of the log-likelihood ratios is introduced. Fidelity charts are compared with extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts as tools for convergence...

Abstract: In this paper the desired turbo coding rates providing methods using the puncturing process and also the effect of this process on BER and FER performances are presented. The performances of the RSC turbo codes with puncturing and without puncturing having the same component codes are compared. The methods of the parity bits puncturing are investigated. In all cases we used the same m...
